Selection of Terminology in Translation of Religious Text into Turkish
A translator should be careful in selecting terminology to be used in religious texts in Turkish. If obsolote words and expressions are used, the new generation will experience difficulty in understanding. On the other hand, contemporary Turkish cannot accurately reflect the meaning embedded in religious texts. The solution is that: the translator should have a good command of both ‘old’ and ‘new’ terminology and be capable of selecting the correct wording according the target audience and – if applicable – purpose of the client.
